In an attempt to speed up inoculation in the country, global cab aggregator Uber has rolled out free rides to COVID-19 vaccination centres. This move, the brand notes, is an attempt to eliminate transportation barriers for all those eligible for the jab.
As per direct-to-mail newsletters sent by Uber, eligible passengers can avail the free rides by punching in a promo code (10M21V) while booking a ride via the official app. These services, however, can only be availed on Uber Go, Uber Go Sedan, and Uber Premier. Moreover, a cap of INR 300 has also been set—divided equally to and from the vaccination centre.
Notably, Uber had earlier pledged free rides worth INR 10 crore to facilitate the immunisation of vulnerable citizens, states a press release. For this, the company reportedly also teamed with Robin Hood Army and other NGO partners to help vulnerable and underprivileged elderly citizens travel to vaccination centres.
Interestingly, vaccinations aren’t the only pandemic-induced initiative introduced by the American technology company. According to another direct-to-mail newsletter, Uber has also introduced Uber Connect. With this service, one can send care packages, essential goods, or the likes to any address in the same city. Those who wish to avail this service can do so directly on the app by clicking on the ‘package’ icon, keying in the delivery address, and making a request for an Uber Connect trip. Next, a designated driver will come to pick up the package and ferry it away to the desired location.
