The recently concluded UN 2019 Climate Summit saw world leaders and activists from around the planet gather together to discuss ways to tackle global warming. One among them was actor, producer, entrepreneur, environmentalist and UNEP Goodwill Ambassador Dia Mirza, who was not only invited as a speaker but has been making waves on all things related to the environment. Dia Mirza has been consistent in her efforts to lead by example for all things related to the planet. Mirza was recently in New York along with the likes of 16-year old teen climate activist Greta Thunberg, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and U.S. President Donald Trump.
“As we are confronted by a climate emergency, it is now necessary more than ever before for us to take drastic steps in transformation, in innovation and change the way we live, we consume, and we build our economies. The Climate Action Summit is an opportunity for people to demonstrate will — political, civil and social will to make the difference that is required for immediate action for the sake of our future.”
The UN Climate Change Summit 2019 was an effort to prepare people to take on climate change. With numbers reaching alarming levels and having direct consequences on people’s lives, the summit brought together governments, private and civil sectors and multiple organisations to bring about accelerated solutions to tackle the ongoing environmental transformations.
Mirza, a goodwill ambassador of the environment has been a voice to the cause and even campaigned with the UN on #BeatPlasticPollution. She has been creating awareness among the people by leading a sustainable lifestyle herself. Recently, the actress took things a step further and presented metal bottles to her onset crew, facilitating and inspire them to make the change.
On New York, the actress says, “New York has always held very special memories for me. I’ve, of course, come here as a tourist in the past but in the last two years, I’ve been coming for the General Assembly. It’s a city now that represents mobilisation of action and strong commitment, and I really love being in New York.”
The actress also works as an ambassador for WildLife Trust Of India and Save The Children. Leading by example, Dia Mirza dons various roles in her reel and real life, and is using her fame and fortune for the betterment of the planet.
