Millennials Take Note: Morgan Freeman Converted His 124-Acre Ranch Into A Bee Sanctuary

Morgan Freeman inspires people across the globe, every day. Known for being an outstanding actor, director and a humanitarian, Morgan Freeman today is making headlines for his contribution to help save the bees. A true hero indeed, we say! By Priyanka Chakrabarti

Morgan Freeman has converted his Mississippi ranch into a bee refuge to save them. He has added acres of flowering plants to his estate to turn it into a dream sanctuary for bees. Did you know, pollinators like bees, birds and butterflies are constantly living under threat due to all the pesticide that we use?  As reported by CNN, between April 2015 and 2016, beekeepers in the US lost around 44 per cent of their colonies. Isn’t that awful? Now, since bees are responsible for nearly one-third of everything we eat, the situation is quite scary for the world’s food supply and economy.

Statistically speaking, one in every three morsels that you put in your mouth is the result of a hardworking honeybee’s deeds. Unfortunately, the population of bees are declining at a very alarming rate.

People from all over the globe are doing their best to save bees; from planting flowers that bees love to visit to petitioning governments to stop using pesticides that kill bees, people are even keeping bees themselves!

Speaking of how bees play a very crucial role in maintaining a balance in our ecosystem, Morgan Freeman said, “Bees support our world. They pollinate a third of our food… and we hesitate to deal with the issue? There’s a concerted effort to bring bees back onto the planet. We do not realise that they are the foundation, I think, of the growth of the planet, the vegetation. I have so many flowering things and I have a gardener, too. Because she takes care of the bees too, all she does is figure out, ‘Okay, what would they like to have?’, so we’ve got acres and acres of clover, we’re planting stuff like lavender, I’ve got like, maybe 140 magnolia trees and big blossoms.”

“I’ve not ever used the beekeeping hat with my bees,” he adds. “They haven’t stung me yet, because right now I’m not trying to harvest honey or anything, I’m just feeding them… I think they understand, ‘Hey, don’t bother this guy, he’s got sugar water here.’”
