It is estimated that the previous coronavirus wave in the nation impacted over 55 per cent of the households across 24 states and two union territories. During this time, access to basic food supplies was limited with most households securing just two meals a day. Taking cue from this alarming situation, and owing to the second wave sweeping through the nation currently, CoviFeedIndia was born.

In a release by this volunteer-based initiative, Sakshi Aggarwal—who conceptualised this platform—says, “This [CoviFeedIndia] is a tech-based volunteer initiative to connect COVID-impacted families and others who may find it hard to cook with the restrictions imposed by the authorities due to the rising cases.”

Launched mid-April, CoviFeedIndia has already garnered supporters. Since its inception, hundreds of volunteers and kitchens have registered itself on the platform. This includes home-chefs, tiffin services, and volunteers who provide home-cooked meals to COVID-impacted neighbours. Underlying this novel initiative, however, is its focus on quick recoveries. “If one family member falls sick, their home has to be quarantined. For affected families, cooking their daily meals at home becomes a real challenge. With our hospitals choked, we need to enable home recoveries,” notes Aggarwal.

Despite this great move, its reach is largely dependant on word-of-mouth promotions. Currently, the team prepares images and lists to circulate on social media. That aside, a consolidated table of the volunteers has been uploaded on their official website, wherein one can see details of the meal providers, delivery area, service type, and the meal provided. With this list, peer-to-peer solutions becomes a breeze, while enlisted geo-location information makes access to meal providers faster and much simpler. To further help strengthen this fight, food providers can also register directly on the website as well.
