Goa is planning on making COVID negative certificates mandatory for travellers entering from certain states of the country. On the other hand, those who arrive at the airport without a valid COVID negative certificate will need to undergo testing. They will be allowed to leave the airport and continue their onward journey only after taking the test.

As per media reports, state health minister Vishwajit Rane has said that they will present a detailed proposal before Chief Minister Pramod Sawant soon. If the state government decides to go ahead with the proposal, travellers coming in from Karnataka, Kerala, and Maharashtra must carry a COVID-19 negative certificate to seek entry into Goa.

Reports further suggest that the health minister’s decision comes in the wake of rapidly rising coronavirus cases in the aforementioned states. Not just that, but Maharashtra is already following a stringent approach to curb rising cases. The state, too, has declared it mandatory for passengers coming in from Goa to provide a COVID-19 negative certificate. This move has been implemented despite the fact that Goa has a much lesser coronavirus cases than Maharashtra.

The health minister also noted that the increasing number of weddings and other such occasions in the state is contributing to the recent rise in positive COVID-19 cases. For this, the government is also contemplating reintroducing a limit on the number of maximum attendees for such events. Additionally, the state is also trying to conduct 2,500 coronavirus tests every day, as mandated by the union government.
