With the year coming to an end, it’s time for the sweaters and boots to come out. But what is winter without its own special dishes? Hot chocolate and egg nog aside, soups are intrinsic to the season. And while the online world is flooded with many recipes, here are 10 recipes for winter soups, from Reese Witherspoon’s quick lentil soup to Vikas Khanna’s Beets and Yogurt Soup, that you can trust will take the chill off.

It’s time to bust out the slow cooker folks! Academy-Award winning actress Reese Witherspoon shared an easy and quick lentil soup recipe. With minimal prep, the recipe essentially requires some broth, vegetables and the possible addition of sausages. The best part about the slow-cooker is that it allows for a lot of improv and spur of the moment decisions.

Though the sun may be more elusive during the wintery days, the feeling of basking in the warm light can be recreated in the kitchen. Made of sweetcorn and bell peppers, Nigella Lawson’s ‘Sunshine Soup’ is so vibrantly yellow and smooth that it brightens up even the dreariest of days.
