Indian food is an amalgamation of lip-smacking flavours and textures. Each region has its own unique cuisine, and unless you travel, it can be tough to experience real, authentic flavours of the region. Enter Saras Food Festival, an ongoing event in Delhi, which brings the best of desi cuisine in one place. Here are the details. By Anushka Goel
Pyaaz Kachori, Litti Chokha, Dosa, and Chole Bhature, all are popular dishes from around the country. But, there’s rarely a moment where you can find all these delicious dishes in one place at one time. So, to bring the country’s cuisine together, the Ministry of Rural Development has organised the Saras Food Festival in Connaught Place, New Delhi. The event is on till November 10, so you still have some time to indulge in authentic Indian cuisine.
Saras Food Festival: All you need to know
The event is being organised at Handicraft Bhawan, and has diluted the country’s borders to bring delicacies together. From Dal Baati Choorma from Rajasthan and Rajma Chawal and Bajre Ki Khichdi from Haryana to Kappa Fish Curry from Kerala and Hyderabadi Dum Biryani from Telangana, the festival has brought together dishes from 17 states. What’s more, these stalls are being run by women of self-help groups in these states, giving them employment and boosting their independence.
Open to everyone, from students to senior citizens, the festival is also a great place to get educated about dishes and ingredients from regional parts of India. Similar ingredients (for example, chana dal), are used in different ways in different states (for example, Puran Poli in Maharashtra and Litti in Bihar), and even the same dish is made differently across states (a popular example is biryani and kheer). So, make the most of your week to relish regional dishes as you welcome the Delhi winters!
