Driving From Delhi To Jaipur? Trust These Dhabas To Satiate Your Hunger Pangs

In this edition of our series on popular highway dhabas in India, we take you to some of the best dhabas on the Delhi-Jaipur highway. Tag along? By Karan Kaushik

Thanks to Jaipur’s myriad touristy offerings, the beautiful Pink City is flocked by travellers throughout the year. Delhiwalas too love driving to Jaipur and nearby heritage properties like Neemrana Fort Palace for short weekend trips. Then there are business travellers, who have been using the Delhi-Jaipur route on a regular basis for the longest time now. It’s an easy five to six hour drive blessed with views of the Aravalis. What makes the route special for first-timers and patrons alike are the many highway dhabas that offer heavenly Indian food. Here, we feature some of the best dhabas on the Delhi-Jaipur highway or National Highway 8.

These dhabas on the Delhi-Jaipur highway are the most popular among frequenters

Old Rao Dhaba

Old Rao Hotel has to be the most iconic dhaba on the Delhi-Jaipur highway. Established in 1995, the dhaba has turned into a plush restaurant chain with four branches being operated right now. The most popular of these is the one at Paota. From refreshing mocktails and kulfis to crispy fritters, burgers, wraps, sandwiches, and dosas, you’ll get it all here. Their Rao Special Thali serves Shahi Paneer, Mix Veg, Seasonal Veg, Dal Makhni, Veg Raita, Veg Pulao, Laccha Parantha, Tandoori Roti, and Gulab Jamun.

“Chook na jana, Highway King ka khana” (don’t miss Highway King’s food) is a familiar tagline for regulars on the Delhi-Jaipur route. They are right. Highway King’s lip-smacking fare should not be missed. We’d recommend their tandoori paranthas with a glass (or two) of sweet lassi. Other bestsellers include Dal Makhani and Aloo Pyaz Rajasthani Curry. When done satiating your hunger pangs, get some snacks for the way ahead. They also have branded factory outlets on their premise, just in case you forgot to pack something.

Mannat is a known name when it comes to highway dhabas in North India. Thankfully, they have their presence on the Delhi-Jaipur Highway too. There’s Mannat Resort in Paota and there’s Mannat Dhaba in Dharuhera. Both serve superlative multi-cuisine fare. The plush settings and laidback vibe will recharge you for the road ahead. Try their Shahi Paneer, Amritsari Chhole, and Aloo Pyaaz Parantha. Don’t miss their tea as well if you are a true chai lover. With an entertainment zone for kids and several shopping outlets, Mannat makes for the perfect stopover for families. And yes, there’s a Jain Shikanji outlet too.

Hotel Highway Xpress

People who have dined at Highway Express include the likes of rapper Badshah and singer Aastha Gill. It’s a go-to option for travellers to Jaipur, Khatu Shyam, and Salasar Balaji as well. The popular restaurant started in 1997 as a humble highway eatery that served only paranthas with copious amounts of fresh white butter to truck drivers. Today, it’s a modernised restaurant with an impressive range of Rajasthani, North Indian, and South Indian delicacies. Try their Poori Bhaji, Dosas, and Honey Ginger Tea. Their premise houses several other outlets like Chicago Burger Xpress, Anna South Xpress, and Cafe Maestro.

What most travellers love about this famous eatery is its prompt service and lovely atmosphere. Stop here if the good old paranthas and lassi are your thing. You must also prefer this dhaba if you are someone who likes lesser-crowded places. Their butter-soaked paranthas will have you at the first bite. On their menu is a wide array of Indian food, with their Punjabi offerings being the most-loved. Go for their Dal Makhani and Lachha Parantha combo. Their Kaali Dal and Stuffed Paranthas with curd also deserve a special mention.

One of the most-flocked dhabas on the Delhi-Jaipur highway, Basant Dhaba is loved for its paranthas and Indian street food. If you are travelling to Neemrana Fort Palace for a weekend getaway from Delhi, you must take a break here. The food court is dotted with several branded factory outlets and shops selling snacks, toys, and knick-knacks. Let your kids enjoy a camel ride, while you decide what to order. We would recommend their Special Tea, Sweet Kulhar Lassi, Aloo Samosa with Chhole, Paneer Butter Masala, and Aloo Pyaaz Parantha.

Located in Dharuhera, this food court has a cosy ambience with sumptuous food and well-mannered staff. Just like Basant Dhaba, Rajwada also offers a range of Rajasthani experiences, including camel rides. The best part? You’ll get Dal Bati Churma here. Try their Rajma Chawal, Dal Makhni, and Kadhai Paneer. The Maharaja Thali is also worth trying if you are in the mood for something lavish.
