The drama begins at the entrance. Reddish-brown walls adorned with face-shaped lamps lead the way to the glitzy interiors of The Dragonfly Experience. Inside, everything from meenakari-like mirror work to glowing LED butterflies sets the tone for an evening that would have fit right into a page out of Through The Looking Glass!
The loud music adds flavour to the décor, as do the place mats and coasters that feature quirky notes and characters on them. There are two menus; one’s Japanese-influenced, with a range of interesting dishes and cocktails, and the other’s got a selection of Southeast Asian-inspired delicacies and an unending alcohol list.
We start with a Mugen and a Lust, both from the Japanese menu. The whisky-infused Mugen had just the right amount of kick to it to get us grooving to the music, and the Lust, a gin and plum-wine-based cocktail made us fall for everything that arrived next, and we’re talking food! If you love tequila like I do, ask for Goku. The bittersweet cocktail will definitely make you crave for more!
Soon, plate after sinful plate of mouth-watering dishes appeared as if almost out of thin air. The service is smooth, the waiters and bartenders make good conversation, distracting you momentarily from the huge portions of food they’re ladling on to your plate. But it’s all worth the bite. Must-tries include the hot Tai Chi Chicken, Chicken Puffsome, Mushroom Puffsome and the Seabass Croquettes.
Once you get over the Mardi Gras of flavours in your mouth, we recommend you order a couple of drinks and either settle down for a conversation by the bar, or let your hair down on the dance floor. Whatever you decide to do, you’ll be bound to have a good time!
