From sumptuous sweets at Balaram Mullick and Radharaman Mullick to the delectable sizzler at Peter Cat, and from the mutton roll at Bedwin to the brilliant biriyani at Shiraz — when in Kolkata, there is no end to the variety of delicious food everywhere. Back in 1868, Nobin Chandra Das developed the very first ‘Bengali roshogolla’- a trademark sweet for us here in Kolkata. It is a white, syrupy sweet dessert made with Indian cottage cheese and it tastes of love, friendship, rainbows and all things perfect! This shop is an absolute must for an authentic taste of our most beloved sweet, which we highly recommend you to not even think of skipping!

Here in the locality named ‘Tiretti Bazaar’, you will find a beautiful Chinese community, about a couple of centuries old. Every day (except Monday) at 5 am, they are known to spread out their tables and serve some authentic Chinese breakfast to the people. From steaming dumplings to sticky rice, from chicken pies to pork chops, and from fish ball soup to sesame seed sweet balls, you will get all the authentic Chinese food you want here at Tiretti Bazaar. What makes it even sweeter is that it’s all homemade!
3. Adam’s Kebab Shop

Located in a narrow bylane of North Kolkata, this shop is practically a hole in the wall. But if the usual holes in the wall could sell such delectable kebabs, this world would have been a much more pleasant place to reside in. Until then, this will suffice! Adam’s Kebab Shop is renowned for kebabs of all kinds but most especially for ‘suta kebabs’. Made with minced beef, these kebabs are so utterly delicate that they need to be supported with a string (hence ‘suta’).

This quaint little cafe in a quiet corner of a bustling street, is a perfect spot to unwind with your friends. Inside it are walls filled with messages from travellers from within the city and travellers. Amidst quotes like “Travel far enough and you will find yourself” and the great food served there, one does end up enjoying themselves quite a lot. With excellent pizzas, lasagnas and the mouth-watering chocolate souffle, to not go to this cafe would be to do yourself a great disservice.

It was back in the year of 1920 that this cafe first sprung into being. Since then, like a precious gem, it has been passed down through generations to love and cherish. It is known to have served legends like Satyajit Ray and Uttam Kumar and to this day, it stands tall filling the air with the same old smell of fish kabiraji, brain chop, chicken roast special, etc. It is said that some things never change. This place stands as an ode to that!
