#TnlSalutes the Indian Hotels Company (IHCL) for providing food to 1.65 million healthcare and migrant workers since the announcement of the first lockdown in March 2020. The initiative together with Taj Public Service Welfare Trust (TPSWT) and Tajsats, started on March 23, and since then the company has managed to feed people across Mumbai, New Delhi, Bengaluru, Coimbatore and Agra. 

The Taj Public Service Welfare Trust has been distributing nutritious meals to medical staff in key hospitals and COVID-19 centers across Mumbai, Bengaluru and New Delhi. The meals are being prepared and delivered by TajSats in Mumbai and New Delhi. The company has also partnered with Chef Sanjeev Kapoor to prepare meals for distribution across Mumbai, Bengaluru and New Delhi.

In Mumbai, the company along with the BMC has been delivering over 10,000 meals a day to medical fraternity at the Kasturba Hospital, The King Edward Memorial Hospital, Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College and General Hospital, Nair Hospital and JJ Hospital. So far they have managed to distribute at least 5,90,000 meals.

Moreover, in Bengaluru, it has been distributing meals to medical staff at Victoria Hospital and Old Diseases Hospital, in partnership with the Taj West End, and has managed to deliver over 17,000 meals so far. It started serving meals at Lady Hardinge Medical College in New Delhi on March 30, and later expanded to seven Delhi based hospitals including Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital, Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital, GB Pant Hospital, Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, Deen Dayal Upadyay and Dr Ambedkar Hospital. In all it has delivered, over 1,91,000 meals in the capital.

Since March 31, the company in partnership with Tata Son’sTPSWT has provided at least 7,85,000 meals to migrant workers in Mumbai.

Furthermore, as many as 11 IHCL hotels across the country have offered rooms to the medical fraternity at properties including Taj Lands End, Taj Santacruz, The President and Ginger Andheri East in Mumbai, Ginger Madgaon, Ginger City Centre, Noida, Ginger New Delhi Rail Yatri Niwas, Ginger Kalinganagar, Ginger Manesar, Ginger Surat and Vivanta Guwahati. Additionally, 38 other IHCL hotels are being used for quarantine purposes for guests which includes the repatriation flights.

Tata Trusts has also been airlifting medical cargo and providing personal protective equipment to various healthcare professionals involved in the fight against COVID-19.
