Multi-national coffeehouse Starbucks readies to open India’s maiden Starbucks Reserve® Store in India—a multi-sensory coffee experience where you can enjoy a cup of joe brewed from exotic beans from around the world. By Rooplekha Das
Since 1971, Tata Starbucks has dedicated itself to the fine art of roasting. This year, on October 19, they will be taking this mission a notch higher with the launch of its first Starbucks Reserve® Store in India. Located at Fort, Mumbai, this multi-sensory coffee house will carry a fine assortment of the world’s rare and exceptional coffee beans. The store will also serve as a natural extension to further strengthen Tata Starbucks’ coffee credentials in India.
The Mumbai Connect
Tata Starbucks debuted in India with its flagship store at the iconic Fort location. To commemorate its 10-year milestone, whilst also creating an inspiring space that preserves the history and resonates with modern-day Mumbai, the coffee house will be introducing the country’s first Starbucks Reserve® Store at the same location. With this, the multi-national chain aims to provide a delightful coffee experience to its customers by developing a distinctive roast and experimenting with coffee as an art form—be it by brewing, infusing, or even blending it into imaginative creations.
Craving Caffeine
All the world’s best roasts will find a home at the new Starbucks Reserve® Store. At the Starbucks Reserve® bar, for instance, customers can enjoy a lineup of Starbucks Reserve® small-lot single-origin coffees. Choose from exquisite coffees including Bolivia Sol de la Mañana, Starbucks Reserve® Rwanda Sholi, or even Starbucks Reserve® Sumatra Kerinci, brewed and served by Starbucks black apron coffee masters.
Apart from simply sourcing the world’s best coffee pods, the roasters here will help unleash its true flavours. When green beans arrive at the Starbucks Reserve, master roasters tailor a unique roast for each lot to unlock the rich flavour and subtlety of every coffee bean. Starbucks’ highly trained coffee experts, equipped with immense coffee expertise, seep the intricacies of each beverage’s fragrance and flavour profile.
At Mumbai’s Starbucks Reserve® Store, this caffeine indulgence can be enjoyed across two bars: one which will serve all core and seasonal handcrafted Starbucks products; and the other that will provide six distinct brewing methods, including pour-over, siphon brewing and nitro-cold brewing, Chemex® and Black Eagle espresso.
When here, customers may indulge in some of their exclusive speciality coffees. The Bolivia Sol de la Mañana is a combination of a delicate lemon fragrance with flavours of papaya, rose hips, and sweet milk chocolate. Rwanda Sholi is a beverage with Freesia aromas, mild acidity, red apple, candied citrus notes, and honey sweetness. Sumatra kerinci—which comprises aromas of magnolia and has notes of cedar, cacao and spicy pink grapefruit with a syrupy finish—is another one of the choices, too. Travel+Leisure India & South Asia asked CEO of Tata Starbucks, Sushant Dash, to pick a favourite on the menu and pat came the reply: “Shakerato Bianco!”
The Starbucks Reserve® bar will also serve other premium hand-crafted drinks in addition to coffee, such as the Vanilla Bean Latte, Dark Chocolate Mocha, Americano Con Crema, Hazelnut Bianco Latte, Shakerato Bianco, Shakerato Bianco Deconstructed, Sparkling Espresso with Mint, and Cortado, among others.
Accompanying Bites
The food menu at Starbucks Reserve® Store will spoil for choice, too. It will include bagels with cream cheese, scones, chocolate cherry tart and freshly-baked items like butter croissants, cocoa hazelnut croissants, onion and cheese twist, chocolate twist, cranberry twist, multigrain croissants, three cheese multigrain croissant, spiced paneer in multigrain croissant, and herbed chicken in multigrain croissant.
Brewed with Art
The store at the Elphinstone building is a historical monument that was constructed in 1869 with Venetian Gothic elements. Even today, it retains its original splendour. With this transformation, the overall aesthetics of the store will remain intact paired with a fantastic balance of contemporary and historical, leaning towards modern. The store’s architecture, patterns, textures, decorative elements, colours and materials will come together in a unique way. For instance, the textured walls behind the reserve bar is influenced by Rajasthan.
Starbucks Reserve® Store’s colour scheme moves from the Reserve area’s sophisticated, contemporary earth tones to the cream and vibrant colours of the mural via the twin arches before transitioning to the low ceiling library and adding a deeper terracotta tone. The warm interiors give the space a warm and fuzzy impression of a library. The Emerald room on the Mezz is painted green to provide a calm and welcoming atmosphere. So, if you’re in Mumbai, the Starbucks Reserve® Store is a must-visit place — to celebrate all things coffee, relax, and have a good time.
