While we wait for the coveted Asia’s 50 Best Bars list for 2021 to be announced, Singapore’s MO Bar has already found itself shining in the limelight. Ahead of the ceremony—that is expected to take place virtually on May 6—the Singaporean drinking hole has clinched the Michter’s Art of Hospitality Award, states an issued release. Notably, this award is the first one in the series of special awards leading up to the ceremony’s digital countdown and eventual release.
The Michter’s Art of Hospitality Award is awarded to the winner of the bar which secures the most votes by by Asia’s 50 Best Bars’ 220-member academy. As part of the finalisation process, the members are expected to name one institution which, according to them, has provided the best hospitality in the last 18 months. “We introduced the Michter’s Art of Hospitality Award last year to honour the best in hospitality on the Asia’s 50 Best Bars stage, as we believe that excellent service is a vital component of any bar experience, and even more so in today’s climate,” says Mark Sansom, Content Editor for Asia’s 50 Best Bars in the release. In doing so, Singapore’s MO Bar won most hearts.

Lauded for its impeccable service, MO Bar is located on the fourth floor of Mandarin Oriental. This 2018-born bar is designed to serve as a destination bar within a hotel, as opposed to a being labelled as a ‘just another hotel bar’. The bar’s nomadic furnishings and décor; and fluid menus have often caught diner’s attention. Interestingly, Volume Three of the menu, which focusses on international bartenders and their creations, has evolved into an interactive digital avatar. Commending the team for their win, Samson says, “The way MO Bar personalises its guest experience is second to none. Visitors to the bar will receive a bespoke programme of ‘treats’, which not only add a sense of theatre, but also shows patrons how valued their custom is.”
Adrian Besa, Bar Manager of MO Bar sees this win as a positive sign in an otherwise tough scenario. “This recognition reaffirms the dedication and hard work that the team has been putting in every day to providing exceptional service and creating moments of delight at MO Bar and Mandarin Oriental, Singapore,” says Besa.
While the complete list of Asia’s 50 Best Bars is slated for early next month, this year the jury has decided to extend the list to award the 51st to 100th ranks as well. The 51-100 list is scheduled to be unveiled on April 29 which will reportedly be complimented by three-day Breaking The Ice bartender discussion sessions starting May 2.
