Nevermind Bar & Kitchen, the eclectic restaurant in Indiranagar, Bengaluru turns one and celebrates with its all new menu that comes with a healthy twist. By Bindu Gopal Rao
As I make my way into Nevermind Bar & Kitchen for lunch on a warm winter day, I am quite taken in by its décor that is a mix of contemporary chic with quirky elements adding a distinct character to the space. Spread across one level, the restaurant has varied seating nooks including a rather innovative private dining area that looks like an igloo. The accessories include flamingo motifs in myriad avatars and tiffin carriers, a vintage looking table fan and even small metal buckets dotting the walls.
As I settle into one of the seating nooks, Sonalika Pawar, General Manager, Nevermind Bar & Kitchen joins me and helps me navigate the extensive new menu that has been launched recently after the place turned one. “Nevermind offers some delish and innovative global cuisine and not just the regular bar food along with our much-talked-about cocktails. The food menu celebrates the finest local produce with some wholesome twists and healthy inclusions to boost. The beverage menu is a celebration of flavours, old and new. The handcrafted cocktails boast of tastefully selected ingredients ranging from various segments like Farm to Glass, Botanical Garden and Spices & Herbs,” says Pawar.
The new menu has been put together by Head Chef Som Lepcha and Sous Chef Tia Anasuya (who has recently joined the team from Gaggan Bangkok). I start my meal with the Som Tam Salad, a Thai favourite that packs a spicy punch and the Crispy Lotus Stem that has a nice sweet hint countering the spiciness of the salad. Most items have an innovative healthy twist, which adds to the flavour and taste. The Root Vegetable soup includes roasted pumpkin with rosemary and carrot topped with toasted ‘Sunflower seed’, and is a mouthful that whets your appetite for more. The salads now also have gluten-free versions and are perfectly crunchy like the Nethili Salad, a signature dish made with crispy fried silver fish (known to reduce cholesterol) rocket lettuce and pickled beets.
Do try the Brie Tempura, which has the luscious French cheese dish served with orange and walnut that is so good you cannot stop at one. If you like dim sums, taste the mixed vegetable and water chestnut dumpling or the signature spicy chicken and fennel bulb dumpling and you will not be disappointed. For the main course, I decided to try Indian and found the Spinach Kofta curry made with soft koftas dunked in a mildly-spiced spinach gravy perfect for pairing with rice or roti. The Pepper Crusted Salmon with garlic creamed spinach is a good choice too as it is served with ‘Edamame Green Pea mash’ instead of the regular potato mash while the Slow Cooked Beef steak has Creamy Spinach and Honey glazed carrots as accompaniments. I end the meal on a sweet note choosing Tall Dark & Crunchy, a sinful dark chocolate ganache with Cashew Praline dust that is simply divine. Check it out and you will leave with a happy tummy.
