Weight-Watchers, This New Menu At Burma Burma Is Meant Just For You!

The Thingyan Food Festival menu at Burma Burma lives up to the popular restaurant chain’s promise of serving authentic Burmese preparations. If it’s a guilt-free dining experience you’re looking for, the restaurant serves up an exquisite array of dishes that’s easy on your gut! By Shikha Pushpan

Did you know that sour and savoury flavours dominate Burmese cuisine unlike the sweet and spicy flavours of its close neighbours — India or Thailand? Or, that Burmese dishes are served with a tonne of accompaniments? The popular restaurant chain, Burma Burma, continues to bemuse Indian diners with the distinct taste of Burmese food and the culinary concepts that revolve around it. Recently, the restaurant introduced the fourth edition of Thingyan Food Festival to celebrate the Burmese New Year. On offer was a special limited-edition menu featuring preparations, such as spicy avacado tea leaf salad, quack palata, 999 noodles, and etc.

The restaurant, which has earned a repute for introducing Burmese destinations through its culinary offerings, sought to explore the Mon and Kayin states of Burma. We especially liked the idea of community meal or the ‘village set,’ which is ideal for diners who want to try multiple dishes, such as tamarind cooler, avocado laphet salad, spring onion crisps, palata, si chet khowsuey, mustard edamame rice black bean chayote curry, and tofu water chestnuts stir fry. The food festival made it an easy ride for weight-watchers by including healthy ingredients such as dried fermented soybean disk, mustard greens, black jaggery, grated coconut, yellow chickpea cake made with vegan tofu, roasted chili, garlic oil and the likes in its various creations.

Also, on the menu are exclusive preparations including grilled mock meat skewers and quack quack palata for those who miss non-vegetarian flavours on their plate! Then there are dishes that are more relatable to the Indian palate, such as samosa sour whole and malar noddle bowl, pickled plum, and tofu mash with paratha.

Choose from an array of exquisite desserts, yay-gei-tho, Rangoon ruby, and vegan passion fruit ice-cream to round off the meal. You can also explore the restaurant’s exclusive collection of tea from different tea gardens, or try the more fancy Nutella bubble tea or Jade. At Burma Burma, the portions served are generous minus any heavyweight ingredients that could end up making one feel bloated!
