With pandemic-related hiccups being a thing of the past, a flurry of eateries have cropped up across the country of late. And if you’re in Mumbai, menus include meticulously-plated sweet treats, indulgent cheesy grub, exquisite pan-Asian delicacies, and heady cocktails. Combine this with the monsoon’s breezy, refreshing atmosphere and you’ve got yourself a memorable dining experience. Here are a few new restaurants in Mumbai to pop by this month.

SMOOR
If luxury is what you seek in your chocolate ritual, this is the spot to head to. A Bengaluru-based brand that specialises in artisanal cocoa fare, SMOOR offers a host of unique couverture chocolates, cakes, pastries, desserts, macarons, and more. Perfect for sweet first dates and weekly get-togethers over a Sunday afternoon, the new 700-square-feet space has pastel walls and minimal decor that let the colourful sweet treats – packaged in artisan boxes and luxe hampers – shine. That’s not all, while there, do savour their salads and sushis.

The Canary
Reportedly India’s first mead taproom that’s inspired by London’s pub culture, The Canary is a two-storey space that’s modern and minimal. A space for live events overlooks the chic dining space here and an all white and grey space opens into a dimly-lit pub spot that’s ideal for romantic dinners. On the menu are British classics like mead-battered fish and chips, charred leg roast, chocolate jalapeno mousse, and stone-fired pizzas. Pair these with Origin meads, which come in seven flavours. The East Bombay Cartel(salted guava mead) comes highly recommended. All this, with a curated playlist featuring artists like The Kooks. This one’s a must-visit new restaurant in Mumbai this July.

Backdoor Bar by La Pôz Place
One of Mumbai’s best kept secrets, this speakeasy boasts of a laid back ambiance and innovative cocktails. The menu here boasts of eclectic concoctions, which feature ingredients like white truffle oil, vegan egg white, passion fruit puree, truffle butter washed bourbon, and fresh raspberry-infused gin. All the syrups and purees are made in-house. The tonic water, also made by the bar, is flavoured with seasonal produce, making for unique sips each time you visit. That aside, recommended here are the truffle mac and cheese, grapefruit sour, and boulevardier. Cheers!

Madras Mail
From the makers of the Tanjore Tiffin Room comes a celebration of Tamilian cuisine. On the menu are options like flaky parotta rolls in yam, paneer, buff pepper, chicken chettinad, and mutton ghee roast variants. Also recommended are the paniyaram with eclectic fillings – jackfruit and pepper, chilli cheese, and coconut jaggery. For something more indulgent, try the kothu parotta or dig into their bun sliders with raw banana, peas, and kadai fried prawn options. Pair these with some iced filter coffee or lemon barley. If you can’t make it to Chennai, this comes quite close.

Slow Burger Co
Few things spell comfort like a classic, slow-grilled burger. This spot makes it a premium affair, with freshly-sourced seasonal produce, quality home-ground meat, and artisanal sourdough or brioche. The payoff is decadence in every bite, with popular menu options like the stone-grilled tandoori chicken number ‘Punjab Da Puttar’ or the chargrilled salmon and raw mango creation ‘Tandoori Salmon’. Also recommended here are ground beef and cheddar-laden Fat Tony burger, prawn tempura with kimchi, and Surf n Turf with ground chicken and crispy prawns. The fries and nachos are delectable as well. Have these with a side of their signature shakes with burnt marshmallows and caramelised bananas or opt for the Greek yoghurt smoothie or turmeric latte.

YEN
Take a high-energy bar with modern decor and combine it with innovative bites and sips and you’ve got yourself the perfect destination for a good time. Featuring cosy booths, expansive gold-lit bar, and expansive spaces – you could party it up or have a laidback soiree here. On the menu are pan-Asian and continental delicacies of which the charred pineapple salad, stir-fried sliced lamb, and truffle mushroom cappuccino come highly recommended. Pair these with vodka-based ‘Return Of The Apes’, or sip the tequila-based basil, orange liqueur, and cranberry.
