Chances are you’ve eaten the candy bar of the same name, but did you know it came into being at a village in Birmingham, United Kingdom? Best known for its connections to the Cadbury family, this village houses every chocoholics dream destination: Cadbury World. A real-life personification of Willy Wonka’s factory, this tourist attraction takes you through the journey of bean to bar in an interactive matter. Along the way, you can make your own candy bar, star in your own chocolate commercial, get lost in the Aztec jungles while hunting for cacao beans, and even splurge at the world’s biggest Cadbury shop! That’s not all though. This chocolate heaven even dishes out big hampers of chocolate goodies for free!

If the sweet treat can do such wonders for your soul, imagine the many benefits it has for your skin! At Rumah Spa, Nusa Dua Bali, you can douse yourself in buckets full of chocolate. Natively grown Indonesian chocolate – the third-largest producer of it in the world – is used for the treatment. Starting with a foot bath, the full sugary treatment involves a body scrub, chocolate oil massage, body masks, and a chocolate bubble bath. In short, it’s got indulgence slathered all over it.

3. Head to a chocolate museum in Ooty

Dubbed as the country’s first chocolate museum, the M&N Chocolate Museum is run by a local family who aims to spread the word about the desserts’ many benefits, break down the complicated production processes, and simply double as a tribute to nature’s sweetest offering. Adding to the delight here are mannequins and structures carved entirely out of chocolate as well. That apart, there are over a 100 chocolates up on display, ensuring each guest is left with a salivating mouth by the end of the tour.

4. Attend the annual chocolate festival in Italy

Held annually in Perugia, the capital of the Umbria region in central Italy, the EuroChocolate chocolate festival would ordinarily invite millions of tourists and Italian natives each year. This nine-day-long festival includes chocolate art displays, experimental chocolate tastings, and even chocolate sculpting. In 2003, the organisers of this festival elevated their love for the deep brown treat by creating the longest chocolate bar in the world – a mammoth 23-feet long, six-feet high hazelnut-infused delight.

5. Explore chocolate farms at the Ivory Coast

Ivory Coast is considered as the world’s largest producers of cacao beans, so it’s only fair for a chocolate lover to take a trip to its cacao farms. This western African country produces approximately 1.65 million tonnes per year (as per a report by GreenBiz), accounting for almost one-third of the global supply. When here, you can head to any of the many farms to learn how to identify a good bean, and even witness the first steps in making a great bar. However, be mindful of the locals and obtain prior permission before you go around plucking your own cacao pods.

6. Join a chocolate tasting club and enjoy zero-waste chocolate in India

Cocoatrait, an exclusive chocolate tasting club in India, has spread its wings to Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Delhi NCR. Founded by L Nitin Chordia, the first certified chocolate taster in the country, the club includes a fine chocolate starter kit subscription that aims to help chocolate enthusiasts take their first step in understanding dark chocolate. The club even organises chocolate making, and testing certification courses. The chocolatiers here create zero waste chocolates as well. Kocoatrait, dubbed as the world’s first zero-waste chocolate imagined by Poonam Chordia in Chennai, not only uses sustainable practices during the production but also imbibes the same philosophy in its packaging. Think upcycled, plastic and paper-free, recyclable, biodegradable, and compostable wrappers for all their 12 unique flavours such as Sukku Coffee, Masala Chai Lavender, pink rose, and more.
