The Agonda beach in Goa has bagged the first position in the Asia list of the annual Travellers’ Choice awards for beaches. Besides Agonda, five other Indian beaches namely Radhanagar, Benaulim, Mandrem and Palolem held the fourth, 15th, 18th and 20th positions, respectively. The awards are compiled based on the reviews given for each of the places on TripAdvisor.

Adored by a long shoreline of the Arabian Sea, the three-km long beach is an unmatched paradise of blue waters, soothing temperatures and welcoming shacks, apart from being one of Goa’s most iconic tourist destinations. It features facilities like money exchange shops, grocery markets, liquor hotspots, transportation on rent, flea markets packed with cheap clothes and souvenirs, and even accommodation facilities at nominal rates. Visitors can also also hire a tent and spend a starry night in the golden sands. The beach has featured at number 18 on the top 25 beaches in the world and also topped the list of 25 best beaches in the country, standing as a distinguished, clear winner.

“It is particularly exciting to see Indian beaches rising in prominence globally, which is clearly evident with Agonda beach taking the top spot in Asia and making it to the global list as well,” said Nikhil Ganju, the India country manager of TripAdvisor.

The global listicle includes 10 beaches from the European continent, and scenic spots from places like Sydney, Egypt, Cuba, Spain, USA, Jamaica and more. Grace Bay in Turks and Caicos and Fernando de Noronha in Brazil are among the top beaches in the list.
