Amazon India will replace packaging elements such as bubble wraps and plastic air pillows, that are crucial for safe travelling of the product, with paper cushions. Not just that, Amazon India will also replace the packaging tapes with eco-friendly substitutes such as bio-degradable tapes. The company has also stopped using cling film in its packaging.

As reported by The Hindu, Akhil Saxena, vice-president of customer fulfilment for the APAC, LATAM and Middle East and North Africa regions, said, “We have successfully eliminated single-use plastic in all our fulfilment centres.”

Amazon has often faced flak for using too much plastic and thermocol in its packaging across the globe. About nine months ago in September 2019, it had committed to replace single-use plastic in its packaging across India unit by June 2020.

This move from the e-commerce giant can be seen in alignment with PM Modi’s appeal made to the citizens in October 2019, where he asked them to help in eliminating the usage of single-use plastic by 2022.

Such a brilliant move from a company of this scale will help in improving India’s plastic waste problem and pave a way for a more sustainable future.
