The grand city of Dwarka ruled by Lord Krishna is believed to have sunk 36 years after the great war of the Mahabharata. The city was designed by the divine architect of the gods, Vishwakarma. As per the mythology and folk tales, the beautiful city’s untimely destruction was due to the prank Krishna’s son, Samba played on three holy sages. The latter cursed the family in retaliation, saying that the family will kill one another. The surviving residents of Dwarka were moved to safer shores by Arjuna and the city submerged in the sea.
2. Atlantis

The Lost City of Atlantis is believed to lie underneath the ocean, fuelling the mystery of the Bermuda Triangle. Researchers claim the city flourished until the ice age. The rapid rise of the sea level at the end of the era resulted in it going underwater. While there is no conclusive proof of its location, scientists say the city was mechanised by crystals so powerful, that they still have bursts of energy because of which planes and ships sink in the Bermuda Triangle.
3. Sodom and Gomorrah

The story of the twin cities of Sodom and Gomorrah is found in the New Testament and The Book of Genesis. The cities were believed to be destroyed after god found their “sins” to be far too grave to punish. The cities were located along the plain of the Jordon River, the area today found north of the Dead Sea. Religious texts claim that the unholy cities were destroyed by angels to rid the earth of vice and sin.
These places are a part of the living memories of many communities and have remained with us as folklore. Their descriptions, grandeur, and culture spark the spirit of creativity and adventure in the heart of every traveller.
