The Sikh community that never shies away from feeding the needy, is once again on its toes to help serve the people in times of global pandemic. The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) has ramped up the Gurudwara Bangla Sahib kitchen to prepare food for more than 40,000 people per day. Moreover, as per reports, around 60 people are working towards preparing and serving the meal. 

Moreoverthe Gurudwara’s langar incharge has also assured that the kitchen is strictly following all the required safety protocols such as maintaining proper distance, and making sure that nobody enters the kitchen without properly sanitizing the hands.

While for lunch the work starts at 5 am and ends by 11 am, for dinner, the preparations resume at 1 pm and end at 6 pm. The menu comprises of rice, bread, sabji, dal, and prasadaThe Gurudwara claims that though it has enough stock to feed during the lockdown period, but is trying to procure more ration, and has reportedly fed more than 4.5 lakh people in the past 12 days. Furthermore, the Gurudwara is also well equipped with machines to prepare food in bulk. One of which has thcapacity to prepare bread from 1.5 quintals of wheat flour every hour. 

Although, the Gurudwara is doing its best to serve as many people as possible, due to the lockdown the number of meals prepared per day has gone down from somewhere between 60,000 and 1,00,000to 40,000, amid a reduction in kitchen staff in order to maintain social distancing.

So far, India has recorded at least 5,916 cases of coronavirus, out which 178 are death cases, and 5,232 are cases which are still active (as on April 9, 2020, 02:16 pm).
