The Biggest Super Moon Of 2020 To Appear Tomorrow. Here's How You Can Witness It

Here’s some food for thought that’ll help break the monotony of the lockdown. The biggest super moon of 2020 will appear on April 7, and we are telling you everything about it, including how you can see it. By Kumar Shree

1. What Is A Super Moon?

Super moon is basically the moment when the moon comes to the closest point of the earth while orbiting it. Moon has an elliptical orbit, and its nearest point to earth is named perigee. Moon will arrive at this point on April 7, which will make it look way bigger than we usually see. If we talk numbers, then the moon, at perigee, will look 14 per cent larger and 30 per cent brighter than the full moon. That’s why it is referred to as the super moon.

2. Set Alarms And Reminders

The expected time of this super moon to commence in India is 8:05 pm on April 7 as per the Indian Standard Time (IST). While the super moon will be there in the sky till April 8, it will be sunrise in India by then, so make sure you do not miss even a second of this wonderful spectacle. That’s why we suggest — set alarms and reminders.

3. Preparations For Watching The Super Moon

Well, talking about the preparations required for watching the super moon, you can rejoice and relax for you don’t need any special equipment to watch it. Unlike a lunar or solar eclipse, where harmful rays can damage your eyes, the super moon has no such conditions applied. All you need to do is head over to your terrace or balconies and enjoy the view.

P.S. Please adhere to the social distancing norm. Remember, it’s a natural phenomenon to witness and enjoy, but not at the cost of your health and safety.

4. Click Some Photographs

Of course, you want to do that! After all, who would not want to capture such a majestic phenomenon. Make sure you use a good DSLR with an equally good zoom lens if you want to click good images of the event. Those trying to capture it on their phone, you’ll struggle in clicking anything more than a white dot in the sky, but we will not discourage you. Go ahead, try, and surprise us.
