Thanks to the state government for introducing chopper services in Uttarakhand, it will soon get easier to navigate across India’s go-to mountain destination. The services aimed at boosting connectivity in towns and cities of Uttarakhand will begin operations starting February 8, 2020. Here’s all you need to know. By Kumar Shree
Captain Deep Srivastava, flight advisor to Uttarakhand CM Trivendra Singh Rawat revealed that 28 choppers will operate across the state. A few of these helicopters will also run on alternate days and the first chopper will trace a flight from Haridwar to Haldwani. The tariff for this ride would be INR 1,200. The distance between these destinations is more than 200 km and takes between five to seven hours by road. The chopper ride will bring down this travel time to 40 minutes.
This affordable chopper service is expected to boost regional connectivity by allowing people to travel longer distance in lesser time and tariff. The charges for this service range from INR 1,000 to INR 5,000 depending on the covered time and distance. It takes about the same amount for covering a similar distance by road, but the time span is much more. These services will be available in all the 13 districts of Uttarakhand. The connectivity, however, will be available to a selected towns and cities in these districts.
This is not the first time this kind of service is introduced in Uttarakhand. Earlier in 2015, the Uttarakhand Tourism Department has started a similar service for providing an aerial view of Nainital and neighbouring areas. That service could not continue operations for undisclosed reasons. This time the government seems better prepared and the services will hopefully not only continue, but also gain popularity among locals and tourists as well.
