Yes, there exists a day in the world that is solely dedicated to sweet treats! By Meenakshi Maidas

World Chocolate Day is observed to celebrate the introduction of chocolates into Europe in 1550. As an ode to this cacao delight, here are a few destinations in India we recommend every chocolate lover should visit at least once:

1. Ooty

Ooty is one of the best places in India that offers delicious handmade chocolates; and being a hill station is an added bonus! When here, do yourself a favour and buy white, dark and truffle chocolates to gobble down when you return. A little birdie tells us that King Star Chocolates in Ooty sells a wide variety of chocolate goodness. Don’t forget to visit the Chocolate Museum to learn all about behind-the-scenes of chocolate-making.

2. Kodaikanal

Pair your Ooty trip with a pitstop at the Princess of Hill Stations, Kodaikanal. With a variety of homemade chocolates like good ol’ milk chocolate cubes, chocolate coated dry fruits, and chocolates with fruit filling, you are bound to be confused about which one to pick. Pro tip: buy an assorted box of chocolates and have yourself a picnic at the Kodaikanal Lake.

3. Mumbai

When in Mumbai, we advise you visit certain patisseries to indulge in heavenly chocolate goodies. Try Fantasie Fine Chocolates, which has a 75-year-long chocolate-making legacy. If you are in Chembur and fancying specialty desserts, Toshin is a must-visit.

4. New Delhi

If you are done visiting tourist spots in Delhi, try gobbling down some ‘made-in-Delhi’ chocolates. Head to ROYCE’ Chocolate and gift yourself a milk chocolate box, a box of their Nama Chocolates, and Patchi Chocolates. You are welcome!

5. Lonavala

When in Lonavala, always buy chocolate fudge from Cooper’s Fudge And Chikkis while enjoying the beautiful mountains.

6. Araku Valley

If you want to try some yummy coffee chocolates, then head straight to Araku Valley. Araku Valley not only offers delicious chocolates, but also provides tranquil surroundings, ideal for unwinding and relaxing. P.S — when here, don’t forget to start your day with a hot cup of freshly brewed coffee.
