#StepAhead: Egypt Suspends Tourist Visa Fees Till October 31

As international borders gradually start to reopen after the Coronavirus outbreak, countries are coming up with new policies to attract incoming tourists. And, Egypt becomes the latest to join the club by suspending its tourist visa fees for select tourist destinations till October 31. By Kumar Shree

As Egypt prepares to welcome international flights starting July 1, it has decided to suspend visa fees for chosen tourist destinations. The move is Egypt’s attempt to attract tourists and boost its tourism sector. Even though the number of Corona positive cases is on a steady rise in the country, the step will help Egypt’s tourism sector to get back on track. Visitors can now get visas for South Sinai, Marsa Matrouh, and the Red Sea without any cost.

The government is putting all the precautionary measures in place to ensure that tourists enjoy a stress-free and safe visit. The government has issued hygiene safety certificates to hotels and resorts. It has also barred them from hosting parties, weddings, organising events, and serving open buffets.

While the guests will need to register online for their stay, the workers at these resorts and hotels will need to take a Corona test before entering the work premises. As per availability, the properties must set aside a small building or floor as a quarantine area. In case anybody tests Corona positive during their stay or someone begins to show symptoms, they will need to be quarantined.

The hotels can operate only at 50 per cent of capacity. They also need to arrange for an on-site doctor and a clinic.

These measures are expected to attract holidaymakers and international travellers back to the country.
