Designing a watch for a woman’s wrist needs both skill and artistry. For International Women’s Day, here are five timepieces that are stylish and technically impressive. By Mitrajit Bhattacharya
1. SERPENTI SPIGA
BULGARI
Bulgari released three Serpenti Spiga novelties in 2020 that reimagined the line in brilliant diamonds and rose-or-white gold. Though each modular element is cast and produced in series, the watch is finished and assembled by hand. An 18K rose-gold interpretation in 35mm with 18K rose-gold crown set with single cabochon rubellite and two-row 18k rose-gold bracelet set with 462 brilliant cut diamonds (2.83ct) is the highlight of the collection.
2. ARCEAU HARNAIS FRANÇAIS REMIX
HERMÈS
With its round case featuring stirrup-like asymmetrical lugs, the Arceau watch designed by Henri d’Origny in 1978 radiated a timeless allure. Appearing in a white gold case, set with 82 diamonds framing an engraved and hand-painted porcelain dial, the Arceau Harnais Français Remix highlights the expertise of Hermès watchmakers. The dial motif, featuring a pair of harnessed horses, echoes the central element of the ‘Harnais Français Remix’ silk scarf,
designed by Hugo Grygkar. 24 pieces only
3. PASHA
CARTIER
The Pasha collection launched last April introduced Cartier’s QuickSwitch strap release and SmartLink bracelet sizing system. You can personalise your Pasha de Cartier by unscrewing the trademark chained crown cover to have initials engraved in the tiny space available. The crown cover, true to the character of Cartier, has a blue spinel or sapphire. The watches come with 100m water resistance.
4. TRÉSOR
OMEGA
Three new models in 36mm have been added to the Trésor line, each crafted in 18K MoonshineTM gold. Another new feature is the mesh bracelet, crafted with a silk-like pattern. Each Trésor is defined by 38 full-cut diamonds that curve along the sides of the case, as well as an additional full-cut diamond set on the crown, which itself is engraved with an OMEGA flower and filled with red liquid ceramic.
5. MARINE HAUTE JOAILLERIE POSEIDONIA
BREGUET
The Mediterranean Sea harbours posidonia oceanica, an endemic plant essential to the ecosystem. Breguet depicts this plant’s arabesques on this timepiece through mother-of-pearl marquetry and invisible setting. The dial, set with 85 baguette-cut diamonds, appears to ripple across the rainbow-like lustre of the Tahitian mother-of-pearl. The skillful setting continues on the bezel, caseband, strap lugs, and the clasp of the buckle. The tip of the second hand reveals the letter B, a distinctive feature of the Marine collection. The crown protection is set entirely invisibly with 14 baguette-cut diamonds.
