Travellers planning to head to Sundarbans or Sagar Island can soon ditch the uncomfortable train journeys and pricey cruise packages. From March onward, tourists will be able to hire a ferry from Kolkata, which will give people more flexibility in their trips.
According to Osprey Waterways’ website, which will be operating these ferries, there will be one fully air-conditioned ferry that will leave from Millennium Park Jetty every day. The website mentioned that the ferry will depart fromKolkata at 8 am and arrive at Kochuberia at 11:30 am. From here passengers will have to organise their own mode of transport if they plan to visit Sagar Island beach, situated 30-kilometres away from the jetty.
The ferry will once again depart from Kochuberia at 3 pm and arrive at Kolkata by 6:30 pm. Travellers can choose between economy and premium seats. One-way journeys for economy seats are charged at INR 1,000 per seat while premium seats are charged at INR 1,400 and include snacks.
Sundarbans, situated in the southern tip of West Bengal, is one of the largest forests in the world. Many endangered species including the Royal Bengal Tiger, Irawadi Dolphins and other critically endangered animals can be found here, making it a paradise for nature and wildlife lovers.
