Unless you can bend the weather to your liking like Sean Connery in 1998’s The Avengers, a reliable weather app on your phone is a great way to stay alert to the weather’s whims. Apart from making note of general weather conditions, a good weather app can tip you off to storms and air quality issues that are so paramount in today’s times.
Whether you take a flight, ride a train or take a simple road trip for the weekend, these eight apps will make sure you are never caught without an umbrella or sunscreen.

This free mobile app is worth a look if you’re mourning the loss of the app Dark Sky. It has everything from basic air quality and humidity details, to locally accurate 15-day forecasts and a 12-hour predicted satellite weather image. Beyond sunshine and rain, AccuWeather can also give details on wind speed, solar ultraviolet radiation (UV) levels, visibility and more.
