September 17 onwards, all travellers who are planning to take a trip from India to Singapore, will have to take a COVID-19 test 72 hours prior to departure. By Kumar Shree
Singapore identified three new cases of Coronavirus last week. Coincidentally, two of them were from India, including a one-year-old child. After the incident, the country immediately updated its essential travel requirements to ensure that going forward, no COVID-19 cases can enter its territory via incoming travellers from India. As per the new rules, starting September 17, those travelling from India, who are neither citizens nor permanent residents of Singapore, will need to take a COVID-19 test.

“We have been closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation in India. There have been reports of a resurgence of infections in India. Singapore has also observed a significant number of imported cases with recent travel history to India. As the global situation evolves, we will continue to adjust our border measures to manage the risk of importation and any onward transmission to the community,” the Health Ministry of Singapore said in a statement as per a report by Mid Day.

This new measure will apply in addition to the prevailing requirements of a 14-day stay-home notice (SHN) at dedicated facilities. Those planning a trip to Singapore must note that they will also need to take the test and procure a negative result before the end of their stay-home notice, and only then will they be allowed to leave the facility. Not just that, but the travellers will also have to pay for the cost of their stay at these SHN facilities and for the tests.
