The Indian Railways has recently installed contactless washbasins and soap dispensers at the Guwahati railway station. Strictly abiding by the appeal of both the Government as well as the doctors to regularly wash hands, the authorities have adopted touchless method of doing so, in order to help passengers avoid unnecessary touching and hence make stations safe for them.
“When the country is fighting COVID-19 pandemic, frequent washing of hands with soap and water is advised to stop the spread of Coronavirus. Ordinary taps can lead to spreading of disease as we are forced to use hands for opening and closing the taps especially in public places like offices, bus stands and railway stations,” a PIB press release said, adding that contactless hand wash dispenser and water flowing taps have been installed at Tiruchirapalli Railway coach depot and Freight depot as well.

“Tiruchirapalli Railway coach depot and Freight depot fabricated contactless hand wash soap dispenser and water flowing taps to avoid human contact. This would effectively prevent the spread of COVID-19 disease. Since Railway workmen have to use the taps frequently, this mechanism is very helpful to prevent the spread of the pandemic. This also ensures the safety of employees and is cost-effective,” the release further said.
Moreover, Trichy Golden Rock Railway workshop has also designed dual basin type foot pedal operating tap cum soap dispenser under Project Swachh, where you don’t need to use hands at all because dispensing of soap and water is done by a pedal-operated mechanism.
Furthermore, railway stations across different parts of the country have been taking various measures to help in the fight against Coronavirus.
