Taking full advantage of the self-isolation period, 10-time Grammy winner John Legend hosted a virtual concert via Instagram Live on March 17. Amid the piano performances, Legend was also accompanied by his wife Chrissy Teigen — with a glass of wine in hand — and daughter Luna.

During the hour-long concert, Legend played some of his hit songs like All of Me, and Bridge Over Troubled Water, as well as works of other artists like Stevie Wonder’s Love’s In Need Of Love Today. Throughout the concert, he interacted with his fans and kept it casual, as is evidenced by his opening lines of the show: “As promised, I am pants-less, I have a robe on. But, I do have underwear on!” Apart from taking song requests via comments, he even discussed the American mockumentary sitcom, The Office and delivered a heartfelt performance of the Vanderpump Rules theme song. The video has garnered over 20,00,000 views as per Instagram.

Using the opportunity to raise awareness for Coronavirus relief as the economy threatens to plunge into a recession, his acoustic performance was also supplemented by requesting people to minimise contact as much as possible. Legend also spoke about how this pandemic is as much a mental health issue as it is a physical one, and that one must not forget their mental health during a period of self isolation. Legend encouraged viewers to rely on online mental health resources should they feel the need to do so, while Teigen revealed that she was speaking to her therapist via Skype that same day. The singer further encouraged people to join in the Stand Together To Beat Coronavirus campaign by Global Citizen. This campaign encourages citizens to take actions to join the global effort against COVID-19 — like educating yourself on COVID-19 and how to stay healthy; calling on G20 states to contribute funding to the global effort; and spreading the world about the World Health Organization’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund.

Despite not being able to perform in front of a live audience, the singer’s focus will continue to be on music, with a new single expected to be rolled out as early as March 20. He even teased similar virtual concerts from music superstars Camila Cabello, Shawn Mendes and Charlie Puth.
