Every year, South Mumbai district witnesses an extravagant buzz of art, literature, culture, heritage, performances, talks, workshops, and so much more, thanks to the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival that brings all of this to the locale. Continuing the 21-year long legacy, the festival is back again for its 2020 edition, and this time it is even bigger and better. By Kumar Shree

1. Art at Kala Ghoda Arts Festival 2020

The Visual Arts section at the festival is going to be a delight for visitors. Names like Ami Patel and Geeta Castelino have curated the arts section, so expect to witness many stunning and thought-provoking art pieces. Installations like Over The Top—Bachpan Baccho by Rupali Patole and Swinging Forward A Lost Childhood will have you enjoying and pondering at the same time.

2. Culture at Kala Ghoda Arts Festival 2020

Expect the cultural factor to be at an all-time high at the festival. Theatre performances, book launches, book readings, cultural walks, and stand-up comedy performances — the festival has it all. The festival will also see the launches of singer Usha Uthup’s biography and Kaifi Azmi’s birth centenary volume of poems. Tributes to Kiran Nagarkar and Girish Karnad are also on the cards.

3. Music and Dance at Kala Ghoda Arts Festival 2020

Music enthusiasts are especially in for a treat as you will definitely find something appealing to your taste. On one hand, YouTuber and playback singer Jonita Gandhi will perform with her band, and on the other, singer Mugdha Hasabnis will pay tribute to the nightingale of India, Lata Mangeshkar. On the dance front, expect to see a wide range of performances, from Bharatanatyam, folk dance, hip-hop, to Flamenco and even Kathak.

4. Talks at Kala Ghoda Arts Festival 2020

The panel discussions and talks at the festival celebrate diversity. Cinema, food, conservation, urban waste management, publishing, writing, planning, architecture, and management — a talk is lined up on some or the other of these topics. Antara Banerjee, Dr Kaizaad Kotwal, Mahabanoo Modi Kotwal and Vikram Bawa will form a part of panel discussion on the contemporary media. Chef and mixologist Arina Suchde, chef Moina Oberoi will also share tips on sustainability and zero food wastage.

5. Workshops at Kala Ghoda Arts Festival 2020

Even the workshops at the festival celebrate the idea of diversity and inclusiveness. You have a lot to choose from, and will surely find something that catches your fancy. Don’t believe us? The 2020 edition of the festival is ongoing from February 1 to February 9. The timings are from 10 am to 10 pm.
