1. How do you think live music performances will change in the post-pandemic world?

Being in a virtual space and getting connected to the world through online podiums has its own benefits; you can reach a greater audience and create a larger impact. But, my preferred space in the post-pandemic world will be offline space only; I would like to go to live concerts and get connected with my audience.

2. How have you been spending your days under lockdown? Did you learn any new skills?

I have been writing a lot and working on several exciting projects simultaneously like some solos, duets, and collaborations that I am really looking forward to. As far as new skills are concerned, I have been brushing up my gardening skills and collecting a lot of plants.

3. Where are you these days?

I have been in Mumbai during the lockdown, and my family is the only thing that I am missing the most during this time.

4. How has this pandemic impacted your life and work?

I have been making the most of this time to be a stronger and better person emotionally, mentally and physically. I think it has really given me the opportunity and space to unwind and taught me that we need to strike a balance between work and life and put our health on priority. As for my work, this is how I started, and it feels like I’m revisiting those days of my career; it’s adding a lot of positivity to my life.

5. What inspires you to make music, and how did the journey begin?

I have always been passionate about music. Growing up, I listened to many global artists. My journey began by singing what I heard, and I never really had any official training, it just started with my passion and love for music.

6. How would you describe the music that you typically create?

Acoustic is one word that would sum it all up. I think I’m an acoustic singer-songwriter, it’s a space that fits me. Beyond that I don’t like to limit my music to a particular genre, I enjoy and love singing all kinds of songs, be it folk, pop, etc.

7. If you could go and open a show for any artist who would it be?

I would love to open a show for Arijit Singh. He’s an artist whose work has really inspired me throughout my journey.

8. Do you sing in the shower?

As a kid, I used to do that a lot but now I guess after becoming a musician, I don’t particularly do that. In my idle time, nowadays, I relish listening to music, new artists and new songs more than singing.

9. What would you be doing right now, if it wasn’t for your music career?

If not a musician, I guess I would be in the space of interior designing. It’s a space that really intrigues and inspires me, and I really like curating personalised spaces.

10. You are from Chicago. Tell us three things one must experience on their first trip to the city.

The first thing I would say is an architectural tour boat ride. It’s a must-do experience when you visit Chicago. They take you on a boat ride and explain the architectural history of the city.

The next thing is watching the breathtaking city skyline from one of the beaches of Chicago such as Mexican Beach, North Avenue Beach or Oak Street beach. It’s a beautiful vista in the heart of the city.

The third thing that I would definitely recommend is to eat iconic Chicago food such as the Polish Sausage.

11. Does travel influence the music you make?

Definitely, travelling contributes to a significant part of my musical influence. I listen to interesting music every place I visit. For instance, Chicago has helped me gain a deeper understanding of hip-hop and rap, Mumbai has helped me develop a passion for Indie pop and Delhi has imparted me with the knowledge of Punjabi music. So to sum it up, travelling really influences the kind of music I make.

12. What’s your favourite venue to perform at?

I think one of the most beautiful venues that I have performed in is Umaid Bhawan. It’s an alluring palace situated in Jodhpur and I have performed there a plethora of times, but it still astonishes me every time. I would also love to perform at an intimate Church wedding in Europe in the future.

13. If you had to pick one city in India, which one would it be and why?

Mumbai because I adore this city. I really like how this is a city of dreamers and free thinkers.

14. Which is the first place you’ll travel to when you can?

I would love to go to Chicago and meet my family whenever restrictions on travelling are lifted.

15. What are the three things you cannot travel without?

The first I would say is a good pair of headphones, the next is a neck-pillow and the last one is a speaker. Being a music enthusiast, I really like to listen to music while travelling.

16. What was your most memorable trip of 2019?

I visited Bali quite a few times last year and I really love that place. It is one of my most favourite places in the world.

17. With domestic travel and road trips set to take centre stage now, what would be your first choice of destination for an Indian road trip?

I would like to take a road trip to South India — from Mumbai to Tamil Nadu to witness the beauty while travelling in a car.
