Marriott's New Way Of Cleaning With UV Light Ensures Your Future Stay Is Super Safe

Luxury hotels are synonymous with cleanliness par excellence, but the virus outbreak has pushed them beyond their former limits. One such hotel chain is the Marriott Hotels, who have now amplified their cleaning and sanitation protocols a notch higher. By Bayar Jain

In light of the coronavirus health crisis, the hospitality company recently announced the creation of the Marriott Global Cleanliness Council along with an enhanced cleaning regimen for its 7,300 properties across their brands around the world. As per reports, the new regimen includes the use of electrostatic sprayers—the same machines used for fogging aeroplanes—to sanitise all surfaces. These disinfecting machines rapidly spray an EPA-approved solution that clings to surfaces, without being hazardous while breathing, and sanitises large areas quickly. In addition, the company is reportedly also testing ultraviolet light technology for sanitising keys for guests and devices shared by associates. Moreover, reports also suggest that areas that are considered ‘high-touch’ such as lift buttons or door handles will also be treated with hospital-grade disinfectants. Moreover, rooms are also expected to be equipped with disinfecting wipes for guests’ personal use.

In an attempt to maintain and practice social distancing, reports suggest that hotel lobbies will now have proper signages reminding guests to maintain distancing protocols, while furniture will also be rearranged to amplify space. According to reports, Marriott is also evaluating adding partitions at front desks and is working with its supply chain partners to make masks and gloves available to associates.

Partitions aside, some reports also claim that the company will be installing more hand sanitising stations at entrances of the hotel; near front desks; elevators; and fitness and meeting spaces. To minimise physical contact with its guests, reports claim that over 3,200 of Marriott’s hotels will allow guests to check-in, access their rooms, make requests, and order room service using their phones.

Marriott’s food safety programme is also reportedly going to be overhauled to enhance sanitation guidelines, with a major focus on more training videos for all operational associates that include hygiene and disinfecting practices. In addition, the company is reportedly also modifying its operational practices for in-room dining and designing new approaches to buffets.
