In such times of crisis, Marriott International brings light back into people’s lives by spreading a message of positivity. Over 270 Marriott International hotels across the Asia Pacific region lit up hotel rooms to form a smiley on the building’s facade. A view that we will remember for a long, long time! By Bayar Jain

When the world is dealing with tough days, luxury hotel chain Marriott International aims to bring back the positivity in people’s lives. Starting April 9, 270 properties of the group offer a ray of hope to communities, locals, and travellers alike. Termed as the ‘Light for Hope,’ this Marriott initiative involves hotel room lights to be switched on to form a smiley visible from the hotel’s facade. Cities and regions such as Seoul, Tokyo, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Saigon, Jakarta, Maldives, Mumbai, and many more have participated in radiating this positivity. This smiley – a unanimous symbol of happiness – aims to replicate the same expressions on the faces of those who see it. And it does indeed!

Speaking about this move, Craig S. Smith, Group President, Asia Pacific, Marriott International says, “In times of uncertainty one thing remains certain – we are in this together, and we will come out stronger.” Adding to these good vibes, he further adds, “We are all awaiting the time when we can travel again, but until then we are following the guidance from local authorities and are dedicated to continuing our support for the communities our hotels are at. Through the various downturns faced over the many years, Marriott International has always stood tall by relying on the humanity of its associates. No matter where people may be, the light at Marriott International will always be on.”

This ‘Light For Hope’ will be visible at select Marriott International hotels across the Asia Pacific region throughout April.

Radiating positivity however, extends beyond the hotel rooms for the Marriott International Group. In these challenging and unprecedented times, associates from hotels across the Asia Pacific terrain have also volunteered for more than 40,000 hours to serve their communities. Contributions include making food donations, creating protective personal gears for front-line medical staff, and securing shelter for medics and journalists. Kudos to Marriott International for bring back hope to our lives!
