The world today is witnessing innovation like never before! Ingenuity and creative thinking have helped a mechanic from Tripura create a motorbike ideal for travelling in the post lockdown times where social distancing will be mandatory and the new normal. By Manya Saini

The outbreak of the novel Coronavirus has left us with new puzzles that people from all over the world have been solving with new and out-of-the-box thinking. Pratha Saha, a 39-year-old man from Tripura has transformed an old motorbike, he bought from a scrap dealer, into a vehicle that complies with social distancing regulations.

He has ensured that the driver and passenger on his bike sit at a gap of one meter. He mechanic built this bike so that he could ferry his daughter to and from school once they reopen. Technology has been central in these solutions lending a helping hand and speeding change.

The internet has taken cognisance of the man’s brilliance and so has Tripura’s Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, who tweeted to congratulate Saha. He wrote, “Necessity is the mother of invention! I congratulate Partha Saha of Tripura for making a unique motorcycle to create awareness during COVID-19 pandemic.”

According to reports, Saha built this bike with the little money he had saved overtime to protect his family. It runs on battery, at a top speed of 40 kilometres per hour, and costs about INR 10 for charging each time. The bike allows him to go a distance of 80 kilometres at a single charge, which takes about three hours.

As the cases of Coronavirus see a steady rise in India, it has also had many innovators come forward with technological advancements to help the country get through the difficult times created by the crisis.
