Mondays with Michelle Obama is the newest virtual storytime for kids under quarantine with readings of beloved children’s books through a live-stream hosted by Michelle Obama. The four-week series was launched last Monday, in collaboration with PBS Kids, Penguin Young Readers, and Random House Children’s Books.

In a press release put out by PBS, Michelle Obama said, “At this time when so many families are under so much stress, I’m excited to give kids a chance to practice their reading and hear some wonderful stories.” The line up for coming weeks includes, There’s a Dragon in Your Book by Tom Fletcher on April 27, Miss Maple’s Seeds by Eliza Wheeler on May 4, and The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle on May 11.

The initiative is a part of the larger #ReadTogetherBeTogether campaign launched by Penguin Random House as a movement that celebrates the importance and power of reading among young children. The Obama’s have always openly expressed the importance of books in their lives and have hosted many readings at the White House during their time in office.

The readings will be live-streamed on the official Facebook page and YouTube channel of PBS Kids as well as the Penguin Random House Facebook Page every Monday at 12 noon EST. If you can’t make it, then fret not, the video will be available to watch later as well!

Amid the pandemic, as parents try to work from home while trying to manage the household chores, children stuck in quarantine are prone to becoming bored and missing their friends. Watching a live stream of a book reading by one of the world’s most beloved personalities can be an extremely inspiring and motivating experience for them.
