The journey between Mumbai and Hyderabad will soon be faster than ever. The distance of 711 kilometres, which takes over 13 hours by train to cover, will soon come down to just 3.5 hours, with the help of the new Mumbai-Hyderabad bullet train. By Kumar Shree
As India is preparing in full swing for the next generation of swift travel, bullet trains are proving to be a boon in the process. While seven high-speed rail corridors are already in the pipeline, the latest to make headlines is the Mumbai-Hyderabad bullet train. After all, who would have thought it would be possible to travel by land between the two cities under four hours. Now that’s exciting, isn’t it? Well, it would be safe to say that the future is nearer than we think, as land survey and other processes have already kickstarted from today.

The National High-Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRCL) had posted tenders for seven bullet train corridors this year, and the Mumbai-Hyderabad route was one of them. While the existing trains on the stretch run at an average speed of 80 to 120 kilometres per hour, the three times faster bullet train will run at a speed of 320 kilometres per hour.
The Railway Board has already asked the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for details of these high-speed rail corridors. Those planning to place bids for the project will be required to shell out a sum of INR 2,22,843 as security deposit. The bidders will have 16 weeks to prepare their detailed project report (DRP), based on which the government will decide the winner of the bid.
