Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) has become the first Indian airport to be accredited under the Airport Council International (ACI) Health Accreditation programme, as a result of the numerous health and safety initiatives adopted by CSMIA for the safety of its passengers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
So apart from all the safety guidelines stated by the government, what special measures did this airport undertake to receive this accreditation?
In adherence to the norms of the government and regulatory bodies, CSMIA ensured stringent screening, social distancing, mandatory compliance with wearing PPEs and required gears, sanitisation and disinfection processes. Simultaneously, it innovated the use of technology to promote contactless experience throughout the airport, and also adopted other initiatives like the installation of glass partitions on all counters, strategic placement of hand sanitizers, sanitisation of cabs across the airport, etc.

As the global aviation industry reels from the impact of the pandemic, several international aviation bodies have put forth recommendations to support and uplift operations at the airports. The Airport Health Accreditation (AHA) Programme launched by ACI in July 2020, assesses the new health measures and procedures adopted by airports to curb the spread of Coronavirus.
In accordance with the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s (ICAO’s) Council Aviation Recovery Task Force (CART) recommendations, the programme assesses procedures like cleaning and disinfection, physical distancing, staff protection, physical layout, passenger communications and passenger facilities.

Since the resumption of domestic flight operations, CSMIA has witnessed an increase in travel. A recent survey conducted at the airport revealed overwhelming satisfaction amongst passengers on the safety measures implemented at the airport. The accreditation by ACI further re-affirms CSMIA’s commitment to safeguarding the health and safety of its passengers and personnel.
“International Transit Passengers can now conduct the RT-PCR test for COVID-19 at Terminal 2 Arrivals area, Mumbai Airport. Find more details here: https://bit.ly/2GG2T8f,” CSMIA said in a tweet.
“At CSMIA we have taken utmost care to ensure you have a safe journey. To find out what your new experience at the airport looks like click here: http://bit.ly/3br3oyc,” it had earlier mentioned.
