Train journeys from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminal just got a whole lot better, thanks to this new waiting room called Namah that has been inaugurated in the iconic Mumbai railway station. And, the new lounge comes equipped with all the world-class facilities one can think of. Here is everything you need to know about this swanky new lounge. By Amitha Ameen

Have a long-distance train journey scheduled that requires you to wait for long hours at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT)? Now, you don’t have to spend hours pacing up and down the length and breadth of the platforms. Central Railways (CR) has just opened a new state-of-the-art waiting room and lounge called Namah in the Mumbai railway station.

“Our aim is to provide better passenger amenities at our stations. If the model is successful, we will explore setting up similar lounges at other stations like LTT, Dadar, Thane, and Kalyan where long-distance passenger trains halt or terminate. As compared to lounges at airports, the fee is pocket-friendly. The general waiting rooms will remain free,” said Chief Public Relations Officer, Central Railways, Shivaji Sutar (as reported in Mumbai Mirror).

In the past, travellers hesitated to use general lounge rooms available in the railway station simply because of overcrowding and poor maintenance of the lounges. But the new Namah lounge at the Mumbai railway station is under a public-private partnership (PPP) model and will be an upgrade.

The new lounge is located on a corridor that easily connects platforms 14, 15, 16, 17, and 18 with the mainline. The air-conditioned room features plush sofas, LED screens that display arrival and departure of trains, dining tables and a cafe, a buffet table, a library, bathrooms with bath kits, a cloakroom, charging points, and much more to serve every need of a traveller.

All of this is available to passengers at a nominal fee of INR 10 per hour. Children between the ages of five to 12 will be charged half the price (INR 5 per hour), whereas kids below the age of five are given free entry. Passengers will also be required to pay a security deposit of INR 50, which will be refunded when they leave the lounge.
