India Will Have A New Road To Ladakh And Why This Is Super Important

India is building a new road to Ladakh, which will prove to be a strategic game-changer for the Indian Army. Here’s how. By Kumar Shree

The new road from Manali to Leh will establish a third link between the mountainous regions and the rest of India. This new road to Ladakh will also provide infrastructural advancement to India in case a situation of combat occurs with Pakistan and China. It will help the troops and tanks to rush to the frontline without coming in the eyes of the enemy.

India has also been working for the past three years to provide alternative connectivity to Sub-Sector North, Daulat Beg Oldi and other strategically-important areas.

As reported by ANI, sources from the government said, “Agencies are working to provide alternative connectivity from Manali to Leh through Nimu-Padam-Darcha axis, which will help in saving a lot of time in comparison with the existing routes passing through Zojila pass from Srinagar and another route from Manali to Leh through Sarchu.”

This new road to Ladakh will cut three to four hours of travel time from Manali to Leh. It will also disable any adversaries, be it from Pakistan or China, from monitoring the movements of the Indian Army, which gives us a great upper hand.

Earlier, the road through Zojila pass running through the Drass-Kargil axis to Leh was used for the movement of the army, its troops, artilleries and other heavy weaponry. This route was heavily targeted by Pakistan during the 1999 Kargil war. With the new route in place, India will successfully eradicate such dangers.

India is also working on developing the old summer route as an alternative to the Durbuk-Shyok-Daulat Beg Oldi road.
