Did you know that the world’s tallest railway bridge, which is even taller than the Eiffel Tower, is under construction in India? The bridge in Jammu and Kashmir will become operational in 2022. Here are all the details about it. By Kumar Shree
For the last few years, India has been working on revolutionising road and railway travel in the country. Adding another feather to the hat, India is constructing the world’s tallest railway bridge over Chenab river in Jammu and Kashmir.

The bridge having a central span of 467 metres is coming along at the height of 359 metres from the bed level. Let’s put this height in perspective here. The Qutub Minar in Delhi is 72 metres in height and the Eiffel Tower in Paris has a height of 324 metres.
The bridge forms a part of the much-awaited Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link, which is 272 km in length. As of now, 161 km length of the project has been crystalised. The total expected cost of the project stands at a whopping 27,949 crore.

As reported by India Times, a senior government official said, “This is the tallest railway bridge in the world and the maximum designed wind speed for the bridge is 266 kmph.”
This is not the only notable project undergoing in India. India’s first cable-stayed railway bridge is also coming along on Anji Nallah in Reasi. A few days ago, we had also told you about how India is building a new route to Leh, which will prove to be of a great strategic upper hand in case of an unpleasant face-off with Pakistan or China.
The world’s tallest railway bridge will be 1,315-metre-long and will be capable of withstanding any blast or natural seismic activity. We are pretty excited to witness this engineering marvel.
