The travel bug seems to have bit iconic designer Sabyasachi as well, and his latest collaboration with clothing brand H&M is a testament of that. Here is all we know about it so far. By Bayar Jain
Coming April 2020, fashion lovers in India are in for a treat, owing to the exciting collaboration underway. Launching on April 16, 2020, the Sabyasachi x H&M collaboration themed Wanderlust collection aims to resonate with the modern global nomad who wants to add that an extra touch to their wardrobe. Each travel piece of the collection will include eclectic designs, all hand-crafted to perfection.
With India doubling as a textile-diverse, craft-abundant, and historically rich nation, the collection has justifiably taken cues from these markers. This collaboration mixes modern and traditional silhouettes, while also bringing in elements of athleisure and glamping into the blend. Each meticulously crafted and embroidered silhouette has been brought to life by the Sabyasachi Art Foundation, an artists’ collective formed as a tribute to the designer’s mother.
The Sabyasachi X H&M collection will transcend clothes – for both, men and women – and include accessories as well.
Speaking about the collaboration, the Kolkata-born designer says, “I am happy to announce the collaboration with H&M, as it gives us the opportunity to spread the Sabyasachi aesthetic to a wider audience in India and worldwide. Having done couture for the majority of my career, it is very exciting to bring that finesse of craft to ‘ready-to-wear’ and create whimsical and fluid silhouettes that bring relaxed sophistication to everyday life.”
H&M’s Concept Designer at Collaborations & Special collections, Ella Soccorsi is also excited tor this upcoming collection. “At H&M, we are thrilled to announce our collaboration with iconic Indian designer Sabyasachi, known for his dynamic use of indigenous crafts and textiles — a language so stunning, that it permanently altered the fashion and design landscape of the country.”
Once launched, the collection will be available across every H&M in the country, as well as flagship stores around the world. For lovers of online shopping, the collection will also be available for sale on the brand’s website, and on Myntra.
