Singapore Airlines to operate the world’s longest duration flight of over 18 hours to the John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York from November 9. By Tanvi Jain

Singapore Airlines (SIA) is all set to return to New York on November 9, with the launch of the world’s longest non-stop flight of over 18 hours, to the John F. Kennedy International Airport. “The Airline will operate the Airbus A350-900 long-range aircraft on the route. This aircraft is configured with 42 Business Class, 24 Premium Economy Class and 187 Economy Class seats,” SIA mentioned in a press release on its official website.
Earlier, it used to operate till Newark Liberty International Airport, but, with its expansion to JFK from next month, passengers will be required to spend two more miles onboard.
“Operating to JFK International Airport would allow Singapore Airlines to better accommodate a mix of passenger and cargo traffic on its services to New York in the current operating climate. SIA’s non-stop services to New York would also be supported by the growing number of transfer passengers who can now transit via Singapore’s Changi Airport,” the airlines further mentioned.

While SQ24 SIN-JFK will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, from November 9, and will be 18 hours five minutes long, from 2:25 am to 7:30 am, SQ23 JFK-SIN will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from November 11, for a duration of 18 hours 40 minutes, from 10:30 pm to 6:10 am (+ two days).
As far as the COVID-19 related precautions are concerned, flyers will be required to wear masks for the whole journey except while eating. Moreover, citizens of the United States will be allowed to enter Singapore only if they agree to serve a 14-day quarantine at their own expense.

Singapore is currently working towards entering the third phase of reopening, likely by the end of 2020. “Phase Three is not a return to the pre-COVID status quo ante. It will entail new ways of working and living until the world has the virus under tight control (e.g. through more effective treatments and vaccines that are widely available). So, we have to be prepared to stay in Phase Three for a prolonged period (potentially more than a year). Phase Three will also not be static. If we can put in place more enablers, there is scope for further reopening and scaling up of activities even within Phase Three,” Singapore’s Ministry of Health stated.
