Actor Sonu Sood has been winning hearts all across the country with his good samaritan acts of arranging for buses and trains to send migrants stuck in big cities back to their home towns. Recently, the actor even came to the rescue of 177 girls from Odisha stuck in Kerala and got them airlifted to Bhubaneswar.

Applauding the actor, Rajya Sabha MP Dr Amar Patnaik tweeted, “@SonuSood Ji, your helping the Odia girls to return safely from Kerala is commendable. Kudos to your noble efforts. It’s incredible to see how you are helping the needy reach their homes safely. More strength to you!”

Moreover, the actor recently ferried thousands of migrant workers from Mumbai to their respective states via special buses and trains as well. After the resumption of Indian Railways, Sood with the help of Maharashtra Government, not only sent over 1,000 migrants from Thane to Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, but also arranged for meal kits and sanitisers for them.

Sood along with his friend Neeti Goel has successfully managed to send more such workers to their respective states by arranging for transport under their #GharBhejo initiative. He also launched a toll free number — 18001213711 —  for such people to connect with him for help.

The actor in a recent meeting with Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari, briefed him about his work and garnered praise from the Governor. “Film star Sonu Sood met Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari at Raj Bhavan. He briefed Governor about his work to help migrant people to reach their home states and to provide them with food. The Governor applauded Sonu Sood for his work and assured him fullest support in his endeavours,” Governor of Maharashtra tweeted.

The nationwide lockdown declared to curb the spread of novel Coronavirus witnessed the biggest march of lakhs of migrants who after losing their source of income and money to afford rent, food or transport, decided to cover miles on foot to reach their respective home states.

The visuals of distressed migrants went viral on the internet and faced criticism from across the nation. Seeing this, many high-end hotels and restaurants came forward to feed the hungry migrants for free.
