The 10-day Taj Mahotsav festival starts from today and it is being held at Shilpgram near the spellbinding Taj Mahal in Agra. Find out what you should expect at this cultural carnival this year. By Sushmita Srivastav

Like every year, Shilpgram near Taj Mahal has once again been dressed to the nines as it is all set to play host to the 10-day long Taj Mahotsav from today onward. The much-awaited annual fest will revolve around the theme ‘Parampara’ or tradition this year.

As per a report by TOI, the festival will be inaugurated by Ram Naik, the State Governor of Uttar Pradesh. Hosted first in 1992, Taj Mahotsav is back with its 28th edition this year, and will be set with handicrafts fair, food stalls, cultural performances and more. A total of 325 artisans from different parts of the country are expected to showcase their exquisite works of art at the fest this time. Zardosi work from Agra, stone carvings from Tamil Nadu, papier-mâché crafts from Kashmir, hand-stitched carpets from Bhadohi, chikan work from Lucknow, zari work from Banaras, and much more—the festival will have a plethora of art and craft works on display. A number of renown as well as rising folk artistes will be performing at the event. Popular B-town names including Kumar Sanu, Usha Uthup, Rithu Pathak, Qawwali singer Altaf Raja, Jasbir Jassi and many more will be seen performing during ‘Bollywood Night’.

A nominal entry fee of INR 50/- will be charged for the carnival.
