Fun but also flavoursome, quirky but also feel-good, unusual but in all the right ways—TAPPA at Aerocity is the new hot spot for epicures in Delhi who crave classics with a modern twist. By Sushmita Srivastav
The first thing that catches my eye as I walk in, is a striking bar right at the other end glittering in the dim but jazzy lights. To my surprise, the restaurant is quite full for a lazy evening in the middle of the week. To my right is a funky DJ setup playing on loop some classic pop hits, and there are Bollywood murals inspired by the 90s to my left, reviving a sense of nostalgia. Right from the ambience to the feel and to the name itself—nothing about this place says regular North Indian dining scene.
TAPPA, hence, is different. A funky wall here, a cutesy corner there, and lots of colours popping up—an exceptionally fun vibe promise everyone a great time. Located on the ground floor of the flashy Worldmark 1 at Aerocity, the fresh new culinary venture of the Lite Bite group has an exceptionally fun vibe and promises a great time. A happy place for all occasions, TAPPA’s broad brand character gives it the liberty to switch from a relaxed daytime bistro to a fun night-time bar. But this fun isn’t limited just to the look and feel of the place. The food here, too, is equally unique and exciting.
I start with the Modern Greek Crunch Salad that comes with mixed romaine, feta cheese, chickpeas, grape tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions and black garlic. The freshness of the salad can be easily measured by the crunch of each bite. The caramelised walnuts in the Sous Vide Duck Salad that comes tossed with mesclun greens, some grilled tea oranges and feta cheese, add a subtle sweetness that balances the flavours of the dish. Moving on, I try the dim sums, and it’s harmless to say, both the Thai Asparagus, Lemon Grass and Black Mushroom, and the Prawn, Asparagus, Garlic and Chive variants are absolutely delightful.
Effortlessly blending desi with contemporary is the Edamame, Artichoke, and Spinach Chaat—a pretty interesting tweak on the palak patta chaat that the capital is so famous for. Kaladi Kulcha with the stuffing of red beans and Kashmiri cheese melts in your mouth—blame all the pure butter that it comes smeared in.
Done in the true Turkish flatbread style, and generously topped with hatch green chilli, garlic, cilantro, fresh mozzarella, and parmesan over the juicy shredded lamb, the Pulled Lamb Pide Pizza is a must-try here.
For mains, I try The Thar Platter that brings together the best of Rajasthani food on a single vegetarian plate. With gatta curry, bajra roti, roasted papad, sprout mix, and homemade pickle, this dish takes your palette on a delicious ride. Chicken-lovers may call it a skip, and replace it with a hot serving of Chicken Achaari, which is served with Canai roti and stir-fried Asian greens and is equally tempting.
While you are here, do try some delicious cocktails like Drink Thy Veggies or Maggi—It’s Different. Wrap the wonderful night of experiencing the glorious haute cuisine with a serving of Dark Chocolate and Litchi Fudge.
