Weekends are for catching up on new shows and movies that we may have missed over the week, or simply rewatching some of our old favourites. However, if you are up for some mid-week binging, here’s what’s trending on Netflix this week. So, get in your jammies, grab a tub of popcorn, and let the streaming begin! By Bayar Jain

1. Kissing Booth 2

A sequel to the 2018 movie of the same name—which happens to be in the sixth position in the trending section this week—this Netflix original is a quintessential American teen romantic comedy. Directed by Vince Marcello, the movie begins with Elle Evans (played by Joey King) reminiscing of her time spent with Noah Flynn (played by Jacob Elordi)—her summer love, before he leaves for Harvard. A bout of long-distance relationship induced anxiety, the indecisiveness of choosing a college, and a renewed friendship with Lee Flynn (Joel Courtney) undertones the narrative of this movie.

2. Door Ke Darshan

What would happen if you wake up after a 30-year-long coma only to find out most of your ideologies are now considered tainted? Directed by Gagan Puri, this two-hour-long Hindi movie delves into this seemingly comical scenario. The story revolves around a family trying to recreate the bygone era to help the matriarch of the family, Darshan Kaur (Dolly Ahluwalia), adjust to the fast-paced life of today.

3. Indian Matchmaking

Offering an insider’s view into the Indian custom of arranged marriages, this Netflix original docuseries has taken the country by storm, offering polarising views on the very manner it deals with the subject. Whether you agree with the show’s depiction is a debate for another day, it’s magnetic lure is hard to resist. During the eight episodes, elite matchmaker Sima Taparia from Mumbai guides her wealthy clients in India and the United States to find a ‘suitable’ partner in marriage, bringing various aspects of the Indian society out in the limelight along the way.

4. Dark Desire

Another Netflix original series, Dark Desire is a Mexican show—with the option of subtitles in English, Hindi, or Spanish—that traces the life of an unhappy Alma Solares (Maite Perroni), a law school professor. The series starts with Solaris visiting her best friend over the weekend, to help the latter come to terms with a divorce. Instead, she has a wild escapade with Dario Guerra (Alejandro Speitzer), only to regret it later when she returns home to her husband, Leonardo Solares (Jorge Poza) and daughter, Zoe (Regina Pavón). The drama, then, unravels a chain of secrets that is binding the family.

5. Cursed

An American fantasy drama series, Cursed is based on the illustrated novel of the same name by Frank Miller and Tom Wheeler. Described as the reimagining of an Arthurian legend, this adventure tale is told through the character of Nimue (Katherine Langford), the protagonist with her mysterious gift and a legendary ancient sword. Armed with these gifts, she sets out on a mission to save her people against the Red Paladins.
