As India is gearing up to step into Unlock 4, speculations suggest that the Delhi metro train services might resume operations from September 1. The concerned officials and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) are prepared to reopen metro services soon. The only pending step is a go-ahead from the government. Once that comes in, the Delhi metro will return to tracks.

As reported by Republic World, the Executive Director of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation in his statement issued on Sunday said, “Delhi Metro Rail Corporation shall be prepared to commence operations whenever directed by the government. All necessary guidelines in place to combat the spread of COVID-19 virus shall be implemented, and all efforts shall be made to make travel safe for commuters.”
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had earlier said that metro train services should be resumed in the city, especially when the COVID-19 situation is significantly improving. Kejriwal conducted an online interaction ‘Digital Samvad’ with traders, entrepreneurs and businessmen on Sunday. During the meeting, he mentioned that his government had requested the Centre to reopen Delhi metro in a phased manner.

Earlier when PM Modi had asked for suggestions from the states regarding relaxation requisites, Kejriwal had urged him to resume Delhi metro services. In its last order related to the lockdown, the Delhi government allowed hotels and gyms in the national capital to reopen.
As on August 25, 2020, Delhi has reported a total of 163,000 COVID-19 cases. However, the great piece of news is that the recovery rate in Delhi is above 90 per cent.
Let’s see if the government decides to bring Delhi metro back on tracks from September 1.
