As theatres continue to remain shut, cinema has entered our homes via digital streaming platforms, the latest of which is director Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Yaara, an action-packed crime drama that takes us through many destinations with its frames. So, let the streaming and virtual travels to these places begin! By Bayar Jain

While theatrical releases might have been sidelined temporarily, paving the way for online streaming platforms to flourish, movies have taken the digital route to bring cinema to our homes. Director Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Yaara, released on Zee5 on July 30, is the latest to join this list. A licensed remake of a 2011 French film Les Lyonnais (A Gang Story in English), this Bollywood version is set in the hinterlands of Uttar Pradesh in the 1970s wherein two men (played by Vidyut Jamwal and Amit Sadh) are involved in illicit trade across the India-Nepal border. As the two undertake their activities, the northern India countryside dresses the frames, giving us wanderbugs major travel goals.

A large chunk of the movie was shot in Uttarakhand, considering it’s the geographical position which serves as a path to Nepal from India. The verdant valleys of Tehri, Dehradun, and Mussoorie are some of the towns the movie journeys to. Some of the scenes are also shot in the iconic Badrinath region of the state.

2. Bhopal

Owing to multiple hurdles, the shooting for Yaara has been ongoing for years, some parts of which reportedly date back to 2014. According to Daily Pioneera part of the movie—including a song—was shot at this state capital of Madhya Pradesh. Reports suggest that the Old Jail of Bhopal doubled as one of the set locations.

3. Nepal

If a movie is based on trade between the two nations, frames from this neighbouring country are a no-brainer. Without giving away too many details about the movie, we can safely tell you that you’ll find yourself transfixed by the views and landscapes of the Hindu nation, in turn enticing you to head to the country the first chance you get!
